Oil Change

What’s Included in a Full-Service Oil Change?

Oil changes are the first line of defense for keeping your car in optimal working condition. Without this regularly scheduled service, the engine would seize up, leading to very expensive repairs. With every oil change, there are other areas of the vehicle that are also checked. The certified mechanics at Auto Specialty of Lafayette, Inc. examine these vehicle parts, and more when you bring your car in for that all-important oil change.

Car Battery

Without a car battery, it’s impossible to drive your vehicle. Usually, we don’t know if the battery is on its way out until it stops working. Our mechanic will examine the battery, looking for any signs of leaking or erosion; plus, we’ll check to make sure it’s fully charged.

Belts

We’ll also examine all belts, tightening them if they’re loose and checking for any signs that they need to be replaced. If we spot rotting, glazing, bulging, or general wear and tear, we’ll let you know. Typically, we can tell if they need to be replaced right away or if there’s still some life left in them.

Tires

For the tires, our mechanics will complete a visual inspection and also make sure they’re properly inflated according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Lights

Our mechanic will inspect all lights on the vehicle’s exterior, including the blinkers, brake lights, headlights, and taillights. We confirm that they’re working properly or replace them if needed.

Fluids

You’d be surprised to learn how many fluids actually run through your car’s engine. They all serve different, yet very important, purposes. The technicians changing your oil will check and fill all fluids, including brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and antifreeze.

Filters

The purpose of filters is to keep dust and debris out of the vehicle as much as possible. Our mechanics will check the air filter, which prevents dust from entering the engine, the oil filter, which cleans the oil that runs through the motor, and the cabin filter, which helps the driver and passengers breathe clean air.
